In the Chinese zodiac twelve-year cycle, each year has a different Chinese animal sign, and those born in that particular year are said to inherit the characteristics of that Chinese zodiac animal. These animals, in order, are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig and this valuable document will reveal your secret friend, your two allies and your conflict animal.

Chinese Animal compatibility chart

In authentic Chinese astrology, the twelve Chinese animals can be categorised into four groups of three animal allies, also known as San He (three harmonies). Anyone born to a certain Chinese animal zodiac will get along very well with their two astrological ally friends in the group, as shown below.

As an example the Tiger, Horse and Dog form one of the four zodiac allies group and will have special affinities between them although the most powerful ally (secret friend) for the Tiger is the Pig who is also known as the Boar and ideally you should carry an image of your secret friend with you at all times

So to try and harness your horoscope secret friend, carry this horoscope ally talisman with you wherever you go. You can also place this lucky charm in your car, office or beside your bed, personally I keep one beside my bed and another in my wallet.

Doing this is said to help improve luck and success and help you avoid many problems, even if the horoscope prediction does not look good one year. Your zodiac secret friend is said to give you give you the power and energy to get through these tricky times as well as enhance your luck.

Gold Plated Animal CharmEvery authentic Feng Shui Master and consultant will recommend this and it is something I have done as far back as I can remember, personally I have a gold plated Chinese Animal protection Talisman in my wallet, one in my car and one beside my bed. I have shown an example below.

You will notice from the graph below your Chinese animal will have two allies and these are also someone who is said to protect and enhance luck although a secret friend is someone you can always count on and will always protect and you should carry this talisman card close to you at all times.

Note that if your animal sign is yang, your secret friend will be yin and if your animal sign is yin your secret friend will be yang.

Every Chinese animal will have a conflicted animal, as you can tell at the first sight, is the opposite of what your allies and secret friends are. These are the animals directly opposite to you on the compass.

Your secret friend at a glance…

  1. Rat’s secret friend is Ox
  2. Ox’s secret friend is Rat
  3. Tiger’s secret friend is Pig
  4. Rabbit’s secret friend is Dog

    1. Hi Karen,

In a romantic relationship, these two animals will enjoy a great relationship together. Both animals desire a safe, steady and serene lifestyle; they both have many interests that they can share together and also have a love for the finer things in life making them a very happy couple. The Snake will enjoy the kind and thoughtful nature of the Goat. These two animals are very well suited.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  1. Thank you for sharing this! I have been learning a lot about Chinese zodiac signs and enemy signs.

I myself am a Water Monkey and I recently married a Water Rooster. We seem very compatible and have a deep connection. We went to high school together and reconnected after 10 years.

I am fairly passive in most situations, although I do stand my ground with my husband on certain things I find very important in life. My husband on the other hand can get a bit controlling and likes to take the lead as well as feels obligated to do so in our many day to day life situations.

I was wondering, how compatible are Water Monkies and Water Roosters? As well as is this a common trait for a rooster to be a bit on the controlling side? If so do you have any advice for Water Monkey and Water Rooster couples?

Thank you for you help! It’s so kind of you to help others with the Chinese zodiac. I am very grateful for your service!

    Blessings!

    The Water Monkey

    1. Hi,

      No problem at all 🙂

In a romantic relationship, these two animals both love to socialize and are very outgoing in nature but they will need to resolve some issues in order to have a successful relationship. The Roosters organized lifestyle will need to be accepted by the Monkey in order for happiness.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

      1. Hi Daniel,

This is the water monkey again. So an update. My husband was born January 1993 and I did the math for Chinese zodiac and it would make him a Water Monkey like as myself.

What is the compatibility for Water Monkeys?

        Thank you again!

        The Water Monkey

        1. Hi,

In a romantic relationship, two Monkeys will enjoy a very happy and peaceful relationship. They enjoy the same activities and share the same interests which will cause the relationship to be filled with fun and excitement. Each Monkey will encourage and support the other animal.

          I hope this helps.

          Kind regards,
          Daniel

  2. Can a person born in horse year keep a horse figurine at home ? It is a fengshui red color horse. If yes, where and which direction

    1. Hi Sreya,

That will be fine to place a Horse figure and I would place this in the southwest for 2021.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

    1. Hi Lito,

I would not recommend placing an Ox figurine as a Goat as this is your conflict animal.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  3. Hi there,

I hope all is well with you. I was wondering if you could tell me if my family is compatible:

    I’m a fire rabbit (1987)
    Partner earth goat (1979)
    1st daughter: fire monkey (2016)
    2nd daughter: earth dog (2018)

And will my two daughters have a close bond relationship?

    Thank you

    1. Hi Thien,

The Rabbit, Goat and Dog are all very compatible with each other and the Monkey is also not in clash with the other animals so overall, the four should all get along well.

These two animals have a lot of differences but the Monkey has a lot of admiration for the Dog and their relations can be very good as well as beneficial to each other.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  4. Hello thanks for your precious insights and much appreciated that you do take the time to follow up with everyone.

I am a woman water dog married to a fire tiger and we have a 2yo earth dog daugther and planning to have another baby in the year of water tiger. Are we all compatible as a family? I’m concern if it turns out to be a baby tiger boy, will 2 male tigers clash? Thanks for your input!

    1. Hi Anton,

The Tiger and Dog are allies and two male Tigers will have a good bond, making all found family members a great match.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

    1. Hi Ro,

In a romantic relationship, these two animals will learn a great deal from each other. The Rooster will admire the Pigs positive nature and will become less forceful because of this. Both of these animals value their home life and will share a great deal of the same interests. They will enjoy a very long and happy relationship together

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

    2. Earth helps metal so that is positive and compatible . the boar (pig) is a feminine sign and so is the rooster so that is another positive . even numbered years are masculine and odd numbered years are feminine. The other consideration in the compatibility of two people is the zodiac sun sign , example Libra and Gemini , the most important thing is how comfortable you feel with the other person . if you feel comfortable with them (and they with you ) then signs don’t matter that much , right ?

    3. Hello,

I am a water pig and my husband is an earth sheep. This year we welcomed our new baby a metal rat. What will the parent-child relationship be like?

      1. Hi Auntie,

In a parent and child relationship, the Rat child will respond very well to the kind and affectionate guidance received from the Pig parent. They can share a lot of interest and enjoy the rewards of this; there will be a very strong bond between them.

In a parent and child relationship, the Goat parent will admire the resourceful nature that is often found around the Rat but their easy and carefree manner can worry the Rat at times. The two animals will love each other very much but relations between them will need to be kept calm.

        I hope this helps.

        Kind regards,
        Daniel

  5. Hi,
My husband is a Earth horse and I’m a fire rabbit, we are expecting our little Ox in May. What are your thoughts? Thank you in advance 🙂

    1. Hi Dottie,

In a parent and child relationship, the Horse parent will show much admiration for the Ox child’s methodical and organized nature, although the Horse parent will not always appreciate the Ox child’s different outlooks and interests which can cause problems between these two animals at times. Both animals will try, but this relationship will need a lot of peace and monitoring.

In a parent and child relationship, the Rabbit parent will teach a great deal to the Ox child and will help them to develop well in life as long as the encouragement is shown from the Rabbit parent. These two animals will share a strong bond which will be strengthened by there similar interests.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

      1. I am a tiger, my husband is a dragon, I have a daughter who is a pig. We are trying for another baby. Will an Ox be more compatible with our family or a tiger?

        Thanks!

        1. Hi Nat,

Both a Tiger and Ox would work well with your family so I would recommend going with what works best with your timeline.

          I hope this helps.

          Kind regards,
          Daniel

  6. Hi my partner is Snake my daughter is a Rat & my Son is a Dog im Also Rat woman Do you think we are compatible ? Thanks in advanve ☺️

    1. Hi Jemmelyn,

The Rat, Snake and Dog are not in conflict with each other and should not cause issues among each other.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

        1. Hi Jemmelyn,

The Snake and Rat are well suited in love. Both animals value their home life and are keen to combine their skills and resources and put them to good use. The Snake will become more sociable because of the Rats positive influence and will also appreciate the Rats warm and attentive nature. These two animals can make a great couple.

          I hope this helps.

          Kind regards,
          Daniel

    2. hello there, i was thinking about getting a tattoo based on chinese zodiac. can you recommend me how to choose? btw i am fire ox.. kinda interested in making dragon or snake

      1. Hi Angel,

As an Ox, your compatible animal is the Rat. You are allied with the Snake so this would work well.

        I hope this helps.

        Kind regards,
        Daniel

  7. It’s so funny.. as if it’s written for us! 😉
Him tiger is totally completely my (PIG)) secret friend! I can’t make more of it haha although.. I wish, or better; WE would wish it was more than only that but really.. the timing is off and probably will be off for the next 15 years according to western progressed astrology! Slowly I start to accept that … but it’s hard. I’m really into western astrology but never heard this “secret friend part” which in fact describes it all between us in 2 words.. so spot on which makes me wonder how much more accurate chinese astrology might be 😉

Btw, I love this “….although the most powerful ally…” yeah, I mean his girl is a horse you see 😉

  8. Hi! My boyfriend is a metal goat and I’m a water monkey. Do you think it’s a good match?

Also, my mom is an ox and my dad is a dog. They are worried that my boyfriend will clash with them. What do you think?

    1. Hi Nica,

In a romantic relationship these two animals are usually very attracted to each other. They are both laid back and there will be a great deal of fun and excitement between them. They both value each others qualities and there will be a great relationship between them.

These two animals have a lot of differences but the Monkey has a lot of admiration for the Dog and their relations can be very good as well as beneficial to each other.

The Ox and Monkey have very different personalities but these two animals can be very compatible as well as mutually beneficial to each other.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

    1. Hi Carl,

The Ox can find the goats personality quite difficult to understand at times which can cause relations between them to be a bit weak. To have a good relationship, the older Goat will need to try to see things through the young Oxen’s perspective.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

    1. Hi Sam,

In a parent and child relationship the Horse parent will try to build up the young Goats self esteem as much as they possibly can and will usually be successful. There will be a very strong bond between these two animals although there will be the occasional disagreement when the Horse feels that the Goat need to put more effort into their activities. Overall there will be a very good compatibility.

As co-workers, these two animals make a very good combination. The Horse will feel the need to dominate at times and will admire the Goats creative side. These two animals will work very well together and will go very far.

In a romantic relationship there will be a lot of passion and liveliness. Both animals will support each other no matter what and will gain a great deal from their relationship together. The Horse will admire the Goats considerate and caring nature. Between these two animals, the relationship will be full of joy and love.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

      1. Hi Daniel,

My spouse’s child is a goat, and I am a metal monkey. I am often responsible for parenting this little guy, and I absolutely adore him. However, I’ve always been very independent (even as a small child), and I find his fearfulness and lack of independence trying at times.

Any tips on how a monkey can be a good parent to a goat? Would greatly appreciate it!

        Thanks,
        K

        1. Hi K,

The Goat thinks very highly of the energetic and resourceful Monkey and relations between these two animals will be very good.

In a parent and child relationship, there will be a very close bond between the Goat child who will receive a great deal of encouragement from their Monkey parent as much as they can throughout life and will usually see very good results of their efforts. There will be a very good relationship between these two animals with a lot of love.

My advice would be to guide the young Goat through life and try to offer advice as this will help them develop and learn in later life.

          I hope this helps.

          Kind regards,
          Daniel

      2. It is a romantic relationship yes. Thank you very much Daniel. Anything specifically for the metal horse & metal goat?

        1. Hi Sam,

The Goat and Horse are secret friends and will overall have a great relationship together. There will certainly be hiccups along the way but generally, they are a very good match.

          I hope this helps.

          Kind regards,
          Daniel

    1. Hi Clara,

As a Monkey and Dog, the best choices would be the Rat, Snake, Horse and Rabbit. I would avoid the Dragon and Tiger as these are your conflict animals.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  9. I am a snake 1989 (earth) and my girlfriend 1992 ( water) is a monkey in the Chinese zodiac sign

    Are we compaible? Just curious

    1. Hi Shaun,

In a romantic relationship, these two animals are very well suited. Both of them are very curious and will be enchanted by the others prosperous and profound qualities and will build a very close bond through this. Both animals complement each other and they have a great understanding together.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  10. Hey i am a water rooster, i have Few people in my family with dog zodiac with whom i usually have passive clashes, any advice on how to deal with them,

    1. Hi Kyra,

The Dog is not as spontaneous as the Rooster and it takes time for them to trust somebody. The Dog needs to give the Rooster the time to do this so they can enjoy a very good relationship together.

In a parent and child relationship, the Rooster parent may not appreciate the sensitive and concerned nature of the young Dog. The young Dog needs love and patience and the Rooster parent will need to give them this. If they can learn to accept each other’s personalities, they can be very happy together.

As co-workers, both of these animals will be very determined to make the most of their strengths but they both have different attitudes and styles which can cause occasional disruptions to the peace of these two animals. Generally these two animals will work well together.

In a romantic relationship, the Dog will not have much patience for the Roosters energetic ways and will be happy to tell them so. These two can be too forthright which will need to be resolved if these two animals are to form a loving relationship.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

    2. Hi Kyra,

I am planning to get engaged, but my partner and I have incompatible signs and I am concerned to go forward. We are a fire rabbit and fire rat. I do not want to bring bad luck. Any suggestions>

      Thanks so much!!!!

      1. Hi Shan,

The Rat usually admires the Rabbits peaceful and discreet manner although the Rabbits sensitive nature and the fact that Rabbits wish to lead a less active lifestyle may lead to problems between the two. Both animals may need to make adjustments to the circumstances above if they are to build a solid relationship.

        I hope this helps.

        Kind regards,
        Daniel

  11. Hi. I’m a fire tiger and my husband is wood ox. We have an earth dog son. We were wondering which, a metal ox, water tiger, or water rabbit , would be the most compatible match for a second child. Thank you!

    1. Hi,

Out of the Ox, tiger and Dog, a Rabbit child would work the best with your family.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

      1. Thank you for the reply. Other than the rabbit are there any other compatible siblings for our dog son? To remind you we are tiger and ox parents with dog son. Thank you so much.

        1. Hi,

The Dog is most compatible with the Tiger, Horse and Rabbit and would not conflict with your Chinese animals.

          I hope this helps.

          Kind regards,
          Daniel

      2. Thank you! What is the relationship like between ox and dog? (Parent/child, siblings. ) Will they get along? Thanks again!

        1. Hi,

The Ox has a lot of respect for the Dog’s many fine qualities but both possess a sense of stubbornness and relations between these two animals may not always be the easiest because of this.

In a parent and child relationship, the Ox parent will often encourage the young Dog, although the Ox parent will not always fully appreciate the Dogs sensitive nature. These two animals will need to handle their relations carefully and with contemplation.

          Kind regards,
          Daniel

  12. What to do if your spouse’s animal sign is OX and you’re Sheep. Kids are Horse, Rooster, Ox and Dragon, mother in law’s also an Ox who’s living with them?? I really need help, please give suggestions 🙁

    1. Hi Rowie,

It can be very hard to have a family where all of the animals are in harmony with each other and the best thing to do is to read up on the characteristics of each animal and try to make allowances for each others personality traits.

There can be problems in a loving relationship between the Ox and Goat. The careful, thorough and organized Ox may get frustrated by the Goats unpredictable ways which can upset the Goats sensitive nature as Oxen are quite straight forward in what they say. These two animals have so many opposite interests and personality features but as long as they can settle their differences and learn to live in harmony together then they will benefit from a good relationship.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

    1. Hi Shaun,

In a romantic relationship, these two animals make a brilliant match. They both have style, classiness and very similar outlooks on life and interests. They both understand each other and will value the support from their other half. The Snake admires the Roosters sincerity and confidence and will be proud to have a capable and organized partner. These two animals are very well suited.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  13. Hi, I am a wood ox (1985) and my husband is a wood rat (1984). We have a mental rooster son (2017). Can you advise if it is best for us to have a mental ox kid (2021) or a water tiger kid (2022)? According to my research, my family need a water element to balance the energy. But, not sure if tiger year is really more compatible than ox. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

    1. Hi Sothea,

In a parent and child relationship, the Rat will feel very proud of the Monkey child’s imaginative nature and their ability to learn. The Rat will be very keen to encourage the young Monkey to do well in life and this will bring a strong bond and great respect between the two animals.

In a parent and child relationship, the Monkey child will respond very well to the Pig parent’s encouragement and guidance. There will be a very strong bond between these two animals which will be made stronger by long-range of similar interests.

The Rooster and Ox admire a lot of the other animal’s qualities; the relationship can be a little bumpy at times but these two animals will generally get on well.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

      1. Thank you, Daniel, for your reply. If I understand correctly, you recommended a Monkey year for the child. However, Monkey is still too far to go. Which one of the following year you would recommend (Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake)? I am a wood Ox and my husband is a wood rat. My son is mental roaster. Thanks a lot.

        1. Hi Sothea,

I would say that an Ox child would work well in your family.

In a parent and child relationship, the Ox parent will take pride in the young Rats resourceful and imaginative nature and will do all that they can to encourage the young Rats many skills. These two animals will have a very close relationship.

In a parent and child relationship, the Ox child will feel at great ease in the secure environment of the Ox household and will listen whenever the Ox parent guides them. The Ox parent will be extremely fond of their child, especially as they will see so much of themselves in the young Ox, they will teach the young Ox not to make the same mistakes that the older Ox made in their younger years.

The Ox respects the Rooster for their order and efficiency and with similar interests; these two animals can form a very good relationship.

          I hope this helps.

          Kind regards,
          Daniel

  14. Hi

I am ox and my husband is Boar. this year has been particularly difficult for us. is there any recommendation for this combination?

    1. Hi Dash,

In love, the Pig and Ox can make a great match. They both enjoy a calm and structured lifestyle and there will be much love between them. These two animals share a lot of the same interests and both enjoy being outdoors. The Ox will benefit from the friendly and sociable nature of the Pig and can become less forceful as a result. These two animals will find much happiness together.

I would recommend taking a look at the annual Flying star analysis as this could be causing issues – https://www.fengshuiweb.co.uk/advice/flyingstars2020.htm

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  15. Hi there,

my husband (Horse, 1990) and myself (Monkey, 1992) are looking to have our first child in the next couple of years but we are worried about having a Tiger (2022) child which may potentially clash with myself being a monkey. How is the parent-child relationship if we have an Ox/Tiger child, or should we wait it out to try for a Rabbit baby instead?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi,

In a parent and child relationship, the Horse parent will have a high regard for the young Tigers keen and daring nature. Both of these animals are always keen to learn new things and love to be involved in new things. The Horse and Tiger will enjoy a great relationship with each other.

In a parent and child relationship, these two animals will generally get on very well. The Monkey parent will admire the young Tigers innovative and imaginative nature. The young Tiger will show their independent side at times which can cause clashes although there will be a good bond between these two animals.

I would say that a Tiger child will work well with your family.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  16. I am a metal sheep woman born in 1991, birth time is in the inauspicious star ‘Gua su’. Even though I got quite a few proposals for arranged marriage from wealth men (Wood ox 1985 and wood rat 1984), I rejected them due to incompatibility. As a Virgo moon and Virgo rising , I am naturally very, very cautious of accepting men. I think with my high expectations I won’t find a suitable, congenial partner (Shen).

Love marriage is not an option in my place. Also, I have trust issues hence I have very less friends and many I don’t trust normally as they are disloyal and insincere with me. We are simply incompatible. So I am a loner and keep my own counsel. As I am born in ‘Gua su’, will I get married to a congenial partner? I am repeating again, love marriage is not an option in my family and also due to my judgemental character , I label people as evil once I get to know their dark side. I hate dishonest people to the core.

I was infatuated with a metal horse , Virgo Sun sign once but due to my fault finding nature, never pursued the relationship. Will I get married to a loving and understanding partner who jibes with my character?I seek emotionally compatible relationship not intellectual. My western sign is Gemini but I behave like my moon and rising sun which is Virgo. I am an introvert. Which Chinese zodiac animal if I marry, I will lead a happy, conjugal life?

    1. Hi Nevaeh,

As a Goat/Sheep, your most compatible animal is the Horse and this would apply to any kind of relationship and not just in a loving romance. Your animal is also compatible with the Rabbit and Pig.

As co-workers, these two animals make a very good combination. The Horse will feel the need to dominate at times and will admire the Goats creative side. These two animals will work very well together and will go very far.

In a romantic relationship, there will be a lot of passion and liveliness. Both animals will support each other no matter what and will gain a great deal from their relationship together. The Horse admires the Goats considerate and caring nature. Between these two animals, the relationship will be full of joy and love.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  17. Hi I was born in year of female horse 1990 and my friend is female pig year 1995. Can our friendship last longer? Any advice?

    1. Hi Roosha,

The Horse will admire the Pigs amiable and laid back nature. Relations between these two animals will be very good.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  18. Hello! I’m a female fire tiger (86’) interested in dating a male metal monkey (80’). Can this be a suitable match? I’ve dated dragon, pig, and horse and none of the relationships worked out, although I had great compatibility with the horse as I felt a good connection. Is choosing a partner based on a Chinese zodiac animal and end all and be all kind of thing? I have tried dating dog but it didn’t go so far as two dates…thanks so much!

    1. Hi Mel,

In a romantic relationship, the Tiger will be delighted with the Monkeys constant desire for fun and energetic nature, although problems can soon occur when they get to know each other better. The Monkey likes to keep a track on whatever is going on around them and the Tiger could start to dislike the Monkeys need to question everything. With both of these animals being strong-willed and their desire to hold sway could cause some difficult times.

Choosing a partner based on their animal will certainly help but I would not recommend ruling out a potential partner because your animals are not compatible as this is only a guide and the two animals can do a lot to counteract the influences of each animal.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel
