Where to Avoid Portable Air Conditioners, Fans and Paddling Pools During July 2026
Written by Daniel Hanna
In the UK, we experienced our hottest June ever recorded in history last week, with Suffolk reaching over 37 degrees, and while there will be some of you who see 37 degrees as jumper weather, the UK is not well equipped to deal with this weather.
When I saw the upcoming weather forecast, I did what 99% of the UK seemed to do; I dug out the fans and portable air conditioner, and went online desperately trying to find a paddling pool for my son, as his outdoor nursery had to close early on the hottest days due to being an outdoor nursery.
Once I had attached the vent for the air conditioner and set the pedestal fans up, I suddenly realised that in my rush, I hadn’t even considered what visiting Flying stars were in the areas where there would be a lot of movement and noise coming from these machines. Luckily, the air conditioner was in the east, where the annual #8 star and the monthly #1 star are located, and the larger pedestal fan could be moved slightly so it fell into the east palace, where the #9 annual star and #2 monthly stars were located. The fan was originally placed in the south, although this could easily be moved over in our bedroom to the southeast corner.
We’re quite lucky that we have a long garden, which meant that we were able to place the paddling pool further back in the garden in the southwest, as this area lines up with our fixed Flying stars based on our home and also lines up with the annual star.
We ended up taking the afternoon off on Wednesday and Thursday last week to play with our son in his paddling pool and caught on work in the evening, which allowed us to make some fantastic core memories of his childhood that I’ll look back on in future years, remembering the water fights, diving for sinkies and pure joy in his eyes when he came home to see his very own garden ocean (at least that’s how I like to imagine he saw it).
While it is always wise to make sure that the Flying stars align when you are placing something like a fan or air conditioner, it is also wise to be realistic in your approach. While not having a fan in our bedroom would not have been a health risk and would have just meant that we were a bit stuffy overnight, if you have health issues that can be brought on by heat, it is best to go against the advice sometimes and make sure that you balance the energy as best as you can by following the monthly advice
Where should I place my paddling pool in July when considering Flying star Feng Shui?
If you’ve read my articles in the past, you’ll know that I don’t like to advise on large bodies of water unless you have a good understanding of the inherent Flying star chart for your home, as this can cause more harm than good at times.
The best placement for a pool if you are unsure of your fixed chart is to place it as far down your garden as you practically can. I would also keep a note of any personal changes any household members experience and check the Annual and monthly Flying Star article to see if the pool could be the cause of any new changes.

It also pays to be proactive, so please have a quick read over the annual and monthly advice to see what placing water could do to these areas.
The people using the pool will have a big impact on the type of energy here; if this is a pool for an adult to lie in and cool down, this will produce a lot less yang energy than a pool that was the same size for 5 children splashing around for the day. Size will also play a big part in this, and if you are placing a small paddling pool for a baby or pet, this is less likely to cause any changes compared to a 15000-litre above-ground pool!
Where can I place my air conditioner or fan in July 2026?
When we get high temperature increases, our first thought is to get the fan or air conditioner out and put it in our bedroom, office, living room etc and what we don’t always consider is the impact this could have on inauspicious stars and afflictions.
For the whole of 2026, we have Tai Sui and the annual #5 star in the south palace, with the Three Killings and Sui Po in the north, making both areas volatile. Ideally, avoid noisy portable air conditioners in these areas for an extended period, although if you are unable to do so, follow the advice in the monthly analysis for July to help weaken this influence.
In Star Feng Shui, moving objects can stimulate the Qi of the sector they occupy. When positioned in an auspicious area, this can activate beneficial energies, although when placed in an inauspicious sector, it can unintentionally strengthen negative influences.
The best locations for a portable air conditioner or fan in July 2026 are in the east and southeast, although we will also have auspicious monthly stars visiting the north, northeast, and southwest, meaning these areas are usable as long as the machine is not too loud.
What happens if I have to place a fan in an inauspicious area?
If you have no choice but to place a fan or air conditioner in an area that is afflicted, my advice would be to try it out for a day or two and see if you notice any difference that is related to the annual and monthly stars here. A good middle ground would be to run the fan on a lower speed or only use it for a certain amount of time, rather than running it all day and night.
If you were using an old portable air conditioner that hasn’t been looked after and makes a lot of noise, it may be worth looking into a replacement if your budget allows and you use this often, but it is also worth considering that these are only used for short periods in hotter months.
It would be wise to make sure that the annual and monthly stars are appeased in any inauspicious area where you are placing a fan or air conditioner, and if you are able to move it into another compass sector in the same room that has an inauspicious star, this would be a good option.

My personal take on using fans and portable air conditioning
Realistically, if my three-year-old son’s room fell into where the annual #5 star was located, as an example, and his bedroom was 28 degrees overnight like it was last week, my first choice would be to place the air conditioner in another room where there was an auspicious influence and aim it towards his room. My second option would be to place a fan in his room and leave it on a lower speed so there is less chance of activating the #5 star; I would also make sure he has some strong metal colours and cures in his room to help counteract this.
Similarly, if I had an elderly family member living in our house, I would prioritise health and comfort in this situation.
Try not to put too much stress on yourself to find the perfect placement for your fan or air conditioner if you are going through a heat wave at the moment; just try to be mindful of the energies around you and how you can balance things.
I would suggest reading through the July 2026 Flying Star analysis to see what needs to be done wherever you have your fan or air conditioner this month to make sure that any inauspicious influences don’t materialise.

Thank you so very much for this email!
Excellent article thank you. A timely reminder as I hadn’t even considered the noise of the air conditioning. l live in Thailand whereits hot and humid. My living room main air conditioning extract is in the South with the Tai Sui and 5star! in 2026. I have a master cure in place, tai sui plaque and Pi Yau Dragon. I have now hidden the remote control for the family for the rest of the year and will us another unit.
Hi Linda,
If the air conditioner is not extremely noisy or worn out, that will be fine to carry on using. It is more of an issue if you cannot easily speak over the noise and is always wise to find a middle ground with something like this, such as running on a lower setting.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Daniel
