This year will be another special one in our house, as our son will be coming up to three years old, and has been so excited with the build up to Christmas this year, making it extra special for us; we Also have our puppy who will be keen to pull all of the decorations from the bottom of the Christmas tree (something we recently discovered in puppy class, when they set out a tree to prepare for this)!

I
f you have a good understanding of the twelve animals, you may have heard of the curse of the Fire Horse, and while there is some truth to this, I suggest taking it with a pinch of salt, as there are many ways that we can all use the Fire Horse’s influence to our advantage during 2026. For all of the twelve animals, 2026 will certainly come with particular challenges for all of us, any nobody will be exempt from this. What will determine our year ahead is our choice to remain active and not become dormant in any areas of our lives.

The annual Flying stars will change on the 4th of February 2026, and the influence of these stars will mostly depend on the layout of your home. In the north, we will have the Three Killings, and in the south, we will have Sui Po. This area will need to be kept calm throughout the year.

Protect yourself in 2026, Chinese Talismans, couplets & Kitchen God
Two longstanding charms used all over Asia in the workplace, shops, and homes all around the year are the Chinese New Year talisman couplets and the kitchen god plaque. In modern times, due to their good nature, people around the globe place the couplets and kitchen god on walls and the kitchen stove or cooker extractor fans. These couplets and kitchen god charms are usually printed or painted on red paper with black ink. Red is associated with luck around Chinese New Year and has another meaning which I will go into more detail below.

Christmas 2025
Christmas is my favourite time of year, especially now that my son is becoming more and more involved in the preparations and is appreciating the decorations and lights, but can these bright red, green, gold, and many other colours have an effect from a Feng Shui point of view? The simple answer is yes. It can have a massive impact if the decorations are placed in the right or wrong area.
Sadly, we cannot provide good and bad areas for everyone’s home based on their floor plan, as it would require a lot of work to read the charts and floor plans and would fall in line with a home consultation, which can cost a lot of money. The cheaper and easier option if you want to know everything about your home or office with regards to Feng Shui is to take a look at the Academy of Feng Shui Software, which can read all of your charts and give you advice for your home with the fixed, annual and monthly Flying Stars and keep you prepared for 2026.
Please read below for a more detailed synopsis of the Feng Shui effects of tinsel, the Christmas tree, flashing lights and everything else that goes with the Christmas decorations…
But I only have the decorations up for a few weeks; surely the Feng Shui effect won’t be that serious?
How do Christmas trees affect the home or office?
Real Christmas trees carry a wood element, although, as the tree has been cut down, the strength of this element is lessened, as the wood is no longer living. Christmas trees also tend to generate a lot of Yang energy due to their bright colours and flashing lights. Their shape, often triangular, is associated with the fire element, which can have either a positive or negative impact depending on its placement, as dictated by the productive and weakening cycles.
These days, Christmas trees come in all shapes, sizes, and materials—ranging from real trees to plastic ones with metal frames and even fabric alternatives. To help you make the most of your festive decorations, we’ve simplified the process of determining the best and worst places to position your Christmas tree for December 2025.
The best locations for a Christmas tree during December 2025 with regard to the annual and monthly flying stars would be in the east (best) and west. The average areas to place your tree this month are the southeast and southwest, although care will be needed in these areas.
If you have no option but to place your tree in one of the areas that aren’t recommended this year, you can still balance this area by using the recommended colours and elements to decorate the tree and area around it.
The compass sectors for where you should and shouldn’t place Christmas decorations will also apply to outdoor decorations, although the further away the decorations are from your home, the less impact they will have on the Flying Stars. For example, a giant red Santa Claus in the front garden, around 10 metres away, would have a significantly smaller effect than if it were placed right by the front door.
The areas to avoid ideally when placing your Christmas tree in December 2025, with regard to the annual and monthly flying stars, would be in the northeast, south and north of a room or building.
Please remember that there is always a solution if you cannot avoid placing Christmas decorations in a certain area of your home.
Why should you avoid placing Christmas trees in these areas?
A Christmas tree has strong energy regardless of whether it is real or artificial; the shape of the tree is associated with the fire element as it is triangle-shaped; its colour is associated with the wood element as it is traditionally green, although some people do use silver, gold and even pink trees nowadays. With the shape and lights of a Christmas tree, the recommendations are based on a traditional-looking Christmas tree bearing fire energy for December 2025.
Any flashing lights are classed as yang qi, and the fire energy from the tree will have a negative effect on the northeast, south and north and can cause problems during December 2025.
Think about the times you have heard of family arguments around Christmas time. This may seem like just a part of the stress during the build-up to Christmas and such a small effect, but sometimes the smallest things can be the catalyst to major disasters, so please take this information seriously.
Do candles have an effect on my home?
North – Not a good area for candles in December 2025. If you have to have candles here, have a battery-powered LED candle, with a neutral blue coloured candle.
Northeast – Not a good area for candles in December 2025. If you have to have candles here, have a battery-powered LED candle, with a neutral metal coloured candle.
East – A fantastic area for candles in December 2025.
Southeast – An average area for candles in December 2025. If you place candles here, try to stick with battery-powered candles or if using real candles, make sure you have the annual star appeased or introduce metal here to balance the fire.
South – Not a good area for candles in December 2025. If you have to have candles here, have a battery-powered LED candle, with a neutral metal coloured candle.
Southwest – This is an average location for candles, as this will enhance the annual star, although this will have a negative impact on the monthly #7 star. If you have to use candles here, try to use battery candles.
West – A fantastic area for candles in December 2025.
Northwest – Avoid candles here during December 2025, as we have the monthly #5 here.
Centre – Not a good area for candles in December 2025. If you have to have candles here, have a battery-powered LED candle, with a neutral metal coloured candle.
If you have no choice but to place your Christmas tree and decorations in the bad areas listed above, just try to avoid too many fire colours, such as shades of reds and oranges.
Based on the recommendations above, I will put our Christmas tree in the west, as this is the most practical area for our home this year.
Will my head fall off if I put red tinsel up in the south or northeast in December 2025?
Putting Christmas decorations up in a particular area of your home that is not suited will not have a major effect on the Feng Shui of your home, although it is still a good idea to avoid placing decorations like Christmas trees with flashing lights or any other Christmas activity that creates movement, noise or vibration in the areas that I have above. If you wish to get more involved in researching the flying stars in your home, I would strongly recommend using the floor planner section of our Academy of Feng Shui software to find your personal best directions for your property.

What colours can I use in each area?
The main Colours used in Christmas decorations are silver, gold, red, orange, green, and white. Below, you will find a list of what colours you can use in each area of your home or office with regard to the annual and monthly Feng Shui flying stars.
Please note that the colours may slightly differ from the recommendations in the December 2025 Flying star article, as I have written this with the best colours to use, and also the colours that you can get away with when placing decorations. Some of the colours recommended below aren’t the best choices for the month, although I’ve selected the least harmful. Please try to appease the Flying stars for December, especially if the colours you are using aren’t recommended in the Flying star article for the month.
North – Blue, black, grey, green.
Northeast – White, silver, gold, copper, bronze.

Make the most of December 2025
In December 2025, the east, southeast and centre are very auspicious, and it is advised to place a lottery ticket in the east, southeast and centre as you will greatly increase your chances of winning. The lottery ticket below was created with our Feng Shui software with an individual’s own unique Min Gua lottery numbers taken from your birth date and just by placing it in the east, southeast and centre can increase the chances of a win tremendously.
Please remember, regardless of whether you are in the northern or southern hemisphere, this applies to trees, tinsel, candles, bright nativity displays, and anything that will activate the Qi in your opinion. The perfect solution to everything that I have written about above would be to make sure that you have prepared yourself for 2026, the year of the Yang Fire Horse.
