Hi Michael, hope your visit to France went wwell, next time come and visit me!!! Aquick question, am renovating a village house which could be very old. Does the fact that it will not be lived in for over three months make it Period 8? Kind regards
Sarah

Hi Sarah, They say if you leave a building empty for over 100 days without disturbance you can change the period and in my experince it does work. It must not have any people entering the home in the 100 days though.
Michael

Oh OK, so in renovating it with all the different workmen going in and out this kills off the change of period – what a shame! Many thanks anyway and regards Sarah

Dear Michael, yet another little niggle which I can’t solve: as I am moving at the end of June I have lots of personal papers to get rid of and would like to burn them. However my fireplace is in the NW and I haven’t used the fire this year – should I risk one good old burn up before moving on? As always your articles are great, so full of sensible advice – kind regards Sarah
